SENIOR CAMP COUNSELORS/INTERNS (PAID)

Camp Geronimo is a summer day camp for children ages 6-12 with disabilities located on a 17-acre farm in West Chester, PA in and around a barn that is wheelchair accessible.  Up to 16 children per week are paired with their own counselor (you!) providing them with one-on-one support.  Animal-assisted and nature-based activities are a unique aspect of camp and allow children to work on individual goals in a safe and secure environment. We are seeking to fill 8 positions.

Selected candidates for these positions will:

  • Assist the Camp Director and Assistant Director in the execution of daily camp activities
  • Ensure the safety of assigned camper, providing one-to-one supervision at all times
  • Assist assigned camper in achieving individual goals throughout each day, actively engaging in camp activities with camper
  • Maintain the highest level of safety for all campers, staff, and animals
  • Maintain a clean and organized camp setting including but not limited to (loft, picnic area, bathrooms, and supply room)
  • With direction from the Camp Director/Assistant Director, assist with the set up and break down of all activities; beginning of day and end of day tasks; communication of daily activity plans and participation to parents/guardians.
  • Assist other camp counselors with their questions and concerns and use previous work experience to troubleshoot issues that arise
  • Follow directions and fulfill requests from Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director

Qualifications:

  • Must be comfortable working with children with various disabilities and working with animals
  • Must be flexible, open to new learning and maintain a positive attitude
  • Must actively participate in mandatory training sessions offered on a Saturday or Sunday prior to the start of Camp
  • Must be available to work all six weeks (or have Director’s Approval to work less than 6 weeks)
  • Must submit a completed application, resume and 2 references
  • Must have completed PA State Police Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Fingerprinting Clearance.
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

2023 summer camp hours are 8am – 2:30pm. Camp weeks are:

June 19 – June 23

June 26 – June 30

July 17 – July 21

July 24 – July 28

July 31 – August 4

August 7 – August 11

Job Type: Part time, Temporary
Salary: $10/hour minimum
Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • No weekends
  • Day shift

PART TIME ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT ASSOCIATE

Exceptional opportunity for an individual interested in contributing to the growth of a unique organization while learning the ins and outs of nonprofit management. You will primarily support the work of the Program Manager and the Executive Director and will be part of a small but mighty staff and caring community of volunteers committed to bettering the lives of children with disabilities through animal-assisted and nature-based experiences. The selected candidate for this job will:

  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of The Barn’s programmatic, fundraising and marketing activities
  • Support office operations by carrying out polite and professional communication via mail, email and telephone
  • Carry out basic administrative duties such as maintaining contact lists and filing systems, drafting correspondence, and monitoring and ordering office supplies
  • Recruit, schedule and manage volunteers
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Develop and update administrative systems to make them more efficient
  • Be comfortable working in close proximity to farm animals and all that is associated with them, such as sounds and smells
  • Be flexible and open to new learning and maintain a positive attitude
  • Feel comfortable working with a small team and with a degree of autonomy

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years college
  • Greater than average command of English language, grammar and spelling
  • Experience drafting professional business correspondence
  • Average math proficiency
  • Minimum one year of experience working in an administrative capacity/doing business support work
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google Drive
  • Proficiency with Salesforce a big plus
  • Proficiency with WordPress a big plus
  • Graphic design or Canva proficiency a plus
  • Gardening interest/experience a plus
  • Proficiency with email marketing software a plus
  • Must pass a PA State Police Criminal Record Check and acquire PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprinting Clearance within 30 days of hire
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Job Type: Part-time, Permanent
Salary: $15 – $20 per hour

Benefits: Casual work environment (office is in a barn); casual attire; flex time; opportunity to occasionally work from home after three months of employment

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday (Approx. 20 hours/week, determined by our need and your availability)
  • 4 – 6 Weekend days and/or nights per year to assist with special events
